More Than This

December 28, 2012

Whenever a year gets to this late stage, I just want it to be over.

Because that will mean no more bad news.

Which of course isn’t the case…

Like with this news about an Indian female student who was raped by multiple men inside a bus.

After hearing she was so critical, I began to wonder if she’d make it.

Now, just a few hours later, she’s died.

A nameless girl known to most as “gang rape victim”.

Surely, if this is 2012, we ought to have a lil’ revelation about her real name ?

RIP, nameless one.

Mu On Mo #30 – Summer Remembrance… Of The Dead

July 23, 2012

In light of recent events, a changed entry for this week.

But to soothe the soul, still a tune.

Music On Monday…

It was fun.

Not sure how or why exactly.

But it must’ve been because I’d been chatting for some hours.

It was past midnight, July 20th had started.

Not that I noticed at the time.

Someone suddenly mentioned “Batman madness”.

It had been building for some time.

Anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s 3rd and final chapter of his Batman movie trilogy was high.

Everyone in the chat seemed to agree.

Then one of the people there linked to a breaking news story over at MSNBC.

A link to another kind of madness, an incomprehensible one.

The hours & days since have barely diminished my feelings about this… event & while I currently don’t even know anyone in Aurora, I still wanted to post a song, like the one that got the following comment on YouTube…

“This is just one of those songs that never gets old or forgotten because everyone has at least one memory they can relate to with this song. I love this song! ❤ :')"

The thing is, I’d never heard it before today.

It just came up when I searched for “remembrance songs”.

I liked it, hope you do too…

That was Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends.

In remembrance of the victims of the Aurora cinema shooting.

Mu On Mo #29 – Summer Tears… Of The Dead

July 16, 2012

With a certain chance of us all living a horrible undeath some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

As you may or may not have noticed, it’s Summer.

& if you haven’t… well, then you’re sense of the passage of time is way off.

Anyhoo, Summer always makes me think of a few things.

Things like women starting to dress in next to nothing & the men who follow them around outside, both ending up with melanoma.

But Summer also reminds me of the Dead.

No, not like zombies but artists who have passed away but had nice songs like the one that got the following comment on YouTube…

“When I listen to something like that I feel sorry for Lady Gaga and all those shitty singers.”

No, don’t feel sorry.

& shed no more tears.

Just enjoy the song…

That was Barbra Streisand & Donna Summer – No More Tears (Enough Is Enough), Donna RIP.

See you another time for more Summer Of The Dead ?

…that’s if we’re still around.

Suddenly… Slugger

July 15, 2012

I’ve had a visitor these past few days.

An uninvited one.

Intruder even, as I have no idea how he got here.

This visitor has no name, at least not as far as I know.

So, for the purpose of (the rest of) this post, let’s call him “slugger”.

Slugger is a shell-less snail AKA a slug.

But I haven’t seen him so much as his slime trails.

Every day, I’d find these somewhere but no trace of Slugger.

Anyhoo, that all changed two nights ago when Slugger suddenly appeared on the door of a closet.

There he was, in all of his “naked” shell-less slimy glory.

Apparently clueless too as I watched him go up & down that door a few times.

Little did I know that would be that last I’d ever see of him.

The next day, I went to visit a friend who lives out of town.

We did the pizza thing, we did the PS3 thing & then, after more fun stuff, I went home again.

Later than planned but that’s what ought to happen with friends IMO but tired as I was, once home I still decided to check a few things on-line.

Slugger hadn’t been on my mind all day & he wouldn’t enter my thoughts until a little later.

I’m not sure anymore if got thirsty or if had to go to the toilet, it’s all a blur now really.

The only thing I remember is, as I came back to the computer there was this… sound.

It was suddenly.

It was unexpected.

It was Slugger.

You see, as I walked back… there was a pop.

…I’d unknowingly stepped on him.

Which, I can reveal here, was most fatal.

Now, over the years I’ve killed my fair share of “pests” in & around the living spaces.

All bugs & also very much intentional kills.

This particular occurrence however “disturbed” me & has been in my thoughts ever since, so I figured I’d deal with it by putting it all here… never thought I’d post about a slug but there you go.

Mu On Mo #28 – Summer Tragedy… Of The Dead

July 9, 2012

With a certain chance of us all living a horrible undeath some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

As you may or may not have noticed, it’s Summer.

& if you haven’t… well, then you’re getting a huge energy bill with that airco of yours.

Anyhoo, Summer always makes me think of a few things.

Things like a barbecue, where after waiting for ages you finally get a flimsy piece of meat that’s half burned to a crisp which causes cancer while the other half’s still raw which causes food poisoning.

But Summer also reminds me of the Dead.

No, not like zombies but artists who have passed away but had nice songs like the one that got the following comment on YouTube…

“The scary thing is that all the people I knew as young are all going, RIP, peace to you all”

A sad fact of growing older, you lose those around you.

It’s always later than you think, so better to do & say the things you want now, while there’s still a chance.

I, for one, say: enjoy…

Co-written with his twin brother Maurice, that was Robin Gibb – Juliet, both RIP.

See you another time for more Summer Of The Dead ?

…that’s if we’re still around.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

As you may or may not have read in yesterday’s post, it’s Summer.

& if it isn’t… well, then you’re on the wrong side of the planet ?

Anyhoo, Summer always makes me think of a few things.

Things like melting ice cream running over your hands, leaving them all sticky & your shoes ruined.

But also the Dead.

No, not like zombies but artists who have passed away but had nice songs like the one that got the following comment on YouTube…

“True Brothers. A rarity. An understanding of such a term.”

Apparently, they weren’t that brotherly by the end.

Which must’ve been difficult when disaster struck.

Oh well, here comes the sunny tribute…

For his murdered friend John, that was George Harrison – All Those Years Ago, both RIP.

See you another time for more Summer Of The Dead ?

If Just 1 Person Believes In You…

May 16, 2012

May 16th, 1990.

As bad days go, it was 1 of the bleakest.

But since then to this very day, 22 years later, however sad there’s no darkness… because the music is still playing & the lights are still lit.

Let me use this moment to just say thanks.

Thanks for the worlds filled with crystals, goblin mazes, storytellers, postcard sending uncles, singing chickens, unfunny bears, hard to understand chefs, piano playing dogs, great whatevers, conceited yet vulnerable pigs & also frogs… it’s all such a rainbow connection of which I’m grateful to have found.

& all that, & perhaps more, is still very Inspirational, Celebrational & yes, Muppetational too.

22 Years Later RIP Jim Henson

Oh dear.

Even with all that happened in the last decade or so, the news still came as a shock…

Because when people are in a downward spiral seemingly of their own making, you want them to snap the Hell out of it & do better to get better & when they finally seem to & then they die… well, it’s even more tragic to the point of being unfair, you know ?

Maybe what it boils down to is the following lyric…

“Bittersweet memories, that is all I’m taking with me.”

But for me it’ll always be that girl who wanted to dance with somebody (who loved her).

World’s #1, Mrt, RIP

January 6, 2012

Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle !

No, this has nothing to do with that replying “moustache monkey” thing the other day, it’s worse than that.

Far far worse.

You see, it seems good ol’ Mrt has died.

Now, don’t go all faint/cry/panic mode on me just yet – it’s not that Mrt I’m typing about here as his name is “Mr. T” & as far as I know, he’s still pitying fools everywhere 24/7.

No, this particular Mrt is a lil’ on-line place where you can… *ahem* …”listen” to music in a digital format.

You just type a name into the searchbar & mere moments later, you get yourself a nice… *ahem* …”playable” list o’ results.

& that system was just fine.

Very very very fine even… until yesterday.

Yes, back then the troubles seemed so far away but now, now it looks like they’re here to stay.

Because now, that nice system has changed !

Like your average porn star website, Mrt has become a paysite.

But unlike 1 of those, where you (apparently) directly pay the chest inflated gal of your wet dreams for access to the so-called exclusive content that holds the promise of her showing it all, here you pay an unseen & faceless nobody who not only has never ever had any contact with the music industry but also isn’t connected in any way to any artist whatsoever.

You know politicians love to claim there’s nothing worse than pirates who upload popular media in digital format but whether it’s porn or music, it’s 1 thing to share & thus get files for free but when you have nothing to do with it & start asking for $$$ to gain entry to your pirate site, you’re a bigger sinful whore than any porn star !

2012, starting to irritate…

Easy Come, Easy Go… Live Forever

November 24, 2011

I wake up.

Feel just fine.

Your face… fills my mind.

You can’t turn back the clock.

You can’t turn back the tide.

Ain’t that a shame ?

It finally happened…

I’m going slightly mad sad.

& there you have it.

Born an unknown.

Died a famous star.

Lives on as a legend.

Now, please bear with me as I have a point here…

I just need to find it somewhere…

Well, you see it’s about these last few months.

Specifically the evenings…

I’d been spending them with someone else.

& looking back, I can honestly say that it’s been a very nice experience.

Because you see, in those late hours I got reacquainted.

Not just with anybody.

No, no…

It was with a TV icon.

A real legend.

Not just him though.

There was his dog & his wife too.

But it was mostly him & me through DVD.

Oh, just 1 more thing…

You wake up, you have a nice day, then you start looking forward to the evening & going to sleep later on.

Guess that’ll teach me to go on-line then.

The unexpected bad news really shocked me to the point of thinking it was a sick joke or something but unfortunately it wasn’t.

I’m not overly familiar with her past appearances as a regular but when she guest-starred in the new series back in 2006, she managed to convey a warmth & a kindness in just a single episode that made me not only understand why her character was a fan favourite but also why she herself was loved by fans worldwide.

About writing Justice League Of America for DC Comics…

I do get frustrated, but it comes with the job. The nature of monthly comics has changed drastically over the past 20 years. JLA used to be THE place to go to see the big guns together, dealing with the gravest threats in the DCU. Now there are several big event crossovers a year, and those titles are where the huge stories happen. So I have to tell stories that feed into and come out of those events. I’d prefer if, as on Justice League Unlimited, I could tell stories that were at the center of the characters lives, but that was a very different circumstance. JLA the comic is part of a larger patchwork, and my mandate is to support the bigger story of the DCU.

A pitch to Marvel Comics regarding the depiction of African American characters…

Proposal By Dwayne McDuffie

The sudden death of such a vocal, honest & talented creator like this is a real loss.

On a personal level, I loved your “Damage Control” concept & the comics you wrote based upon that.

Thanks for those.

You Ought To Know By Now

January 19, 2011

About a week ago, a friend of mine asked me about the kind of music I liked.

It was difficult to give a specific answer to that question as I listen to this & I listen to that.

My friend then added “sometimes on blogs people will end their post with what they’re listening to at the moment“.

That remark stayed with me afterwards.

As it lingered in the back of my mind, I began to wonder about the songs I listened to & which of those were the ones I listened to the most.

After about a week, curiosity finally got the best of me & I delved into my music collection.

But with many files to choose from, I began to feel like the proverbial kid at the candy store as I wanted all of them !

To just look at the titles was a futile endeavour & there were just way too many to listen to.

So, changing my tactics I started to look if anything stood out & then playing it to see what it did to me .

For a while I thought that with “David Bowie – Jump They Say” I’d found my choice but then a few songs later I found that 1 really special song I’d been hoping to find.

It’s not a song I’d listened to lately but playing & then replaying it a couple of times as I thought of its singer with a smile, I knew it was Thé Song.

So, I e-mailed my friend & sent along the title of my choice.

“Energized” by it all, I went on-line to check some info on the singer as the song played on the background.

Much to my amazement I found his birthday was the very next day.

Which is now today, January 19th.

A question about music, a statement about blogs, wondering about it for all those days, going through my music list, listening to what stood out, finding that song & then later that little fact…

Maybe there’s no bigger picture, no deeper meaning but it sure is a odd/funny thing how these events unfolded in a… serendipity of sorts.

After all of that, I knew I had to write a post about it & about him, the singer.

He should’ve been 62 but unfortunatey he died back in September of 2003.

I’ll always remember him from his clips filled with heavily made up models but sorely miss him for his distinctive voice & wonderful songs.

Like the 1 that stood out, “Know By Now” from the album Honey by…

Robert Palmer RIP… & happy birthday sir !

Death is… hardly the right reason to update a web log twice in 1 day but I really wanted to say something about this passing.

I can still remember watching “Father Dowling Mysteries”. Seeing this priest character go about solving crimes with a nun named Steve as his sidekick was something I couldn’t get enough of (why this series hasn’t appeared on DVD yet is a real mystery).

But long before the priest there was this hardware store owner & dad from Milwaukee in “Happy Days”. While the series shifted its focus from the wholesome teen Richie to the cooler Fonzie, Howard “Mr C” Cunningham remained a comforting sight for me throughout the series.

In both of these roles there was something about that particular face & voice, something that made me feel at ease & welcome. Somehow as though you’d known him personally for several years. So, maybe it wasn’t so odd you played both a dad & a father.

It really saddens me you’re no longer around Mr C…

Years ago, must’ve been 2001, I was watching season 1 of 24.

It was somewhere near the last few episodes & all of a sudden there he was.

It was a cool surprise as in those days, unlike now, it was still very much a rare thing to see a movie actor appear on a TV series.

But movies is what he did & what he’ll be remembered for.

Like this one…

Kinda makes me wonder if somehow he would’ve preferred to go out like this instead…
