Mu On Mo #42 – Post-Illusion Lies The Connection

October 15, 2012

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Hello there, I’m half-asleep as I type this but for this week’s entry, I’d like to talk about something personal.

Something that’s been going on for some time now… trouble.

Something of a strained relationship between my oldest friend & me.

Take yesterday, for example.

We had a phonecall & in some ways, it seemed (IMO) to be the latest chapter of this longrunning anti-saga.

Until, sometime later, it happened.

My friend mentioned having been emotionally down a while ago.

This info being new/unknown to me, it led to all sorts of wondering on my part.

Which meant that the background feeling of conflict disappeared like an illusion of sorts & left only the important part & that (along with other reasons) makes it go well with a song that got the following comment on YouTube…

“Who said it was a kids song?”

Hm, while there’s nothing wrong with that if it were 1, that’s so not the case.

This song has nothing to hide, in fact it’s probably magic.

To the lovers, my friend & me…

From a special place, that was Kermit The Frog – Rainbow Connection.

Here’s some Music On Monday…

It’s cold outside.

There’s no kind of atmosphere.

I’m all alone, more or less…

No, not how I’m doing.

But rather lyrics.

About a mutated cat, a mechanoid, a hologram & the last remaining human.

Oh sure, there’s still terrorists, Republicans & other sick people out there.

But gosh darnit, I feel happy !

& with that goes a crazy song that got the following comment on YouTube…

“The King of the potatoe people demanded I watch this!”

Potato people, you say ?

Myes… myes… *strokes chin*

Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast…

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Why so serious ?

Let’s put a smile on that face !

There’s an intense scene in “The Dark Knight” where The Joker says those 2 lines.

Well, after last week’s confession of sadness, I figured the opposite was needed.

Something fun !

This in the form of today’s song which got the following comment on YouTube…

“This video is great. I laugh everytime I watch it”

Indeed, so have I.

Major thanks to “AP” for linking me to it.

Why so serious indeed…

From the nonsensical I-net, that was… uh… “Dog” with Batman Theme originally composed by Neal Hefti.

Some hours earlier, I was watching the news.

Then suddenly “Curiosity” was mentioned.

The latest NASA rover to land on the planet Mars.

No small feat.

Despite that, I’d forgotten all about it as it had been traveling through space for months now.

In any case, to commemorate this & other such past achievements some music which got the following comment on YouTube…

“fucken beautiful”

Gotta love those YouTube users.

They have… such a way with words.

Yeah, they’re a form of Life, just not as we know it… anyhoo, enjoy…

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Deadline ? Looming !

Results ? None presently !!

Stresslevels ? Through the roof !!!

You know, for something that’s supposed to soothe the soul this current superhero themed Mu On Mo is the exact opposite.

Damn you, billboard.com, damn you for that “article” of yours using not just a handful of superhero songs but fifteen of them.

*sigh* …welcome to this unlikely & sofar not so super 4th part of May’s super Mu On Mo.

Looking back, these past 3 mondays were… inspired to say the least but very very very hard to figure out.

With billboard.com forcing my hand, it’s safe to say the choices I made during the past 3 weeks would have been different.

All that improvising, it’s almost like a continuation of the previous Jazz theme.

But billboard.com or no billboard.com, perhaps this attempt of mine was doomed from the start anyway ?

I mean, don’t all these superhero thingies come in threes, like trilogies & such ?

…hmmm, maybe this is how Christopher Reeve felt after trying his hand at Superman IV: The Quest For Peace ?

Sure could use a little bit of that right now.

Peace of mind that is.

I’ve come sooo far & I’m sooo close, should I… can I give up now ?

3 creative updates in a row, that makes a pretty good run.

Yes… yes, ok… I guess that’s it then.

…WHAT THE HELL AM I TYPING ???

Those bastards at billboard.com are Evil !

I don’t wanna quit, I can’t quit, I won’t quit !!

Ok, if the past 3 updates like The Powerpuff Girls, Sunshine Superman & Beautiful (May)Day were all based on what they didn’t include in their hellish list, then I…

Evil ?

Hellish ??

This has been my darkest hour yet… but it’s always darkest before the dawn… because it’s then, during such darkness, that the light shines the brightest !

Can it be that they forgot about the ultimate superhero ?

So, yet another omission, eh ?

Let’s see… he cannot die, he levitates, has healing powers & a dad more powerful than Odin…. why, it’s PERFECT !

Billboard.com, thy wicked article is cast back into the lake of fire from whence it came from.

But not by me though, no by the superhero standing with me in this battle against your Evil.

A superhero who has had many songs written about him, 1 of which is a vid which got the following comment on YouTube…

“jesus f***ing christ!”

That’s just horrible !

Not because it’s blasphemy but because it’s a spoiler.

Save your soul & enjoy this song about the ultimate superhero…

May 16, 2012

May 16th, 1990.

As bad days go, it was 1 of the bleakest.

But since then to this very day, 22 years later, however sad there’s no darkness… because the music is still playing & the lights are still lit.

Let me use this moment to just say thanks.

Thanks for the worlds filled with crystals, goblin mazes, storytellers, postcard sending uncles, singing chickens, unfunny bears, hard to understand chefs, piano playing dogs, great whatevers, conceited yet vulnerable pigs & also frogs… it’s all such a rainbow connection of which I’m grateful to have found.

& all that, & perhaps more, is still very Inspirational, Celebrational & yes, Muppetational too.

These superheroes are useless !

None of them have any great songs for me to use.

Hello, welcome to the 2nd & probably last part of this Superheroes themed Mu On Mo.

At least the Powerpuff Girls had their own CD full of songs by several artists.

…oh, but what to do next ?

Curse you billboard.com for leaving me with so little to work with, curse youuuuu !

…wait, what’s this ?

Re-reading that damned “article” of theirs, do I spot a blatant clue from a disgruntled music lover in the billboard.com comments section ?

…yes Yes YES, the day is saved !

“15 Sensational Superhero Songs”, eh ?

Ha, more like omission after omission !

But their loss is my gain because it’s a great song & it got the following comment on YouTube…

“I just had a cosmic erection!”

Well, that’s all okey-dokey, peachy keen, fine & dandy but this next song mentions not 1 but 2, count ’em, 2 superheroes !

Oh yeah, billboard.com ain’t got nothing on me.

The Blog Of X-Mer’s New Atlantica Page !

Welcomes you to a new themed Mu On Mo with this month: “Super Heroe… …sorry, what’s that ?

Oh, they did, did they ? I see…

Well well well.

Seems those sons of bitches over at http://www.billboard.com had their own lil’ Mu On Mo (on a thursday !) entry complete with a superhero theme under the title of “15 Sensational Superhero Songs”.

Really ? Oh, gimme a break !

The only plausible reason for this… oh-how-odd occurring “coincidence” is that I am of course the victim… of a mind probe !!!

*dramatic pause to let that shocking bit o’ news sink in*

…yes, those billboarding bastards stole my idea & by using 15 so-called “sensational” songs about superheroes, they made sure I would not be able to do my own without making it seem I was copying them.

Well, I’m not going to take this lying down !

No sir, it’s time for Emergency Plan Zeta-Beta !

…unfortunately, there’s no such plan which means… that I am indeed utterly & truly… defeated !!!

Oh no ! Can this truly be The End for your favourite waste of time (aside from you-know-what, you disgusting perv !) ?

Just how on Earth can this conundrum of a cliffhanger ever be resolved ?? Is that even possible, dear readers ???

Find out next week in the exciting Part II, same X-Mer-Time, same X-Mer-Ch… oh, wait it’s just below this narration…

Yes, there I was… finished, kaput, all washed up & also no web log entry.

But seriously, as I went over my arch foe’s “article” again, I found they’d made… an error !

Not a spelling error or even a grammatical one but rather… an oversight of pint-sized proportions.

Sure, they had listed 15 of the best songs about superheroes.

Or so they thought because there was a grave mistake by way of omission.

An omission that fortunately for me does have some songs, one of which got the following comment on YouTube…

“This song isn’t on Itunes :(”

Awww, too bad but you know what it’s also not on ?

Billboard.com !

But, thanks to YouTube, it IS here…

From “Heroes & Villains”, a great lil’ CD featuring music inspired by superheroine group The Powerpuff Girls, that was (Black Francis AKA) Frank Black – Pray For The Girls.

Here’s some Music On Monday…

I wonder what day it’s today.

Let’s see… what, monday ???

But that can only mean 1 thing.

Today, the 30th of April, is the 1st ever…

International Jazz Day !

Welcome to the last part of the Jazz themed Mu On Mo.

But before that, let’s hear a little bit more about this day from none other than Herbie Hancock…

“International Jazz Day is the great metaphor for international harmony.”

Wait, what’s that you say Mr Hancock ?

Harmony ?

Hmmmmm.

Why, that makes me think of a certain song…

Sing IT ! You Know You Want To

Huh, what ?

Not that song !

I meant the 1 that got the following comment on YouTube…

“This Band is like the first Beatles album: TIMELESS. God they ROCK!!!!!”

The 1st what album ?

Anyhoo, yes Jazz is a timeless art form.

But for now, let’s say goodbye to it with the following improv…

Holy crap !

It’s an eggless chicken, I tells ya !

EGGLESS !!!

Oooooh no.

No no no no no.

N-O period !

I know how this works by now.

A “weird” event happens & suddenly the Apocalypse is breaking news.

Then… instead of The End, nothing actually happens.

Well, it’s going to take a lil’ more effort for these “signs” to make me offer yet another virgi… uh, I meant write about it here.

&… errr, waste your time… yeah, that’s it.

Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That

April 10, 2012

Ok, ladies… whoops, I meant feminists.

What do we want ?

Women’s rights !

Very good.

When do want ’em ?

NOW !

Uh-Huh, & for whooo ?

US !

Yeaaah, & who else ?

…whaddaya mean “who else ?” ?

Well, the term “women’s rights” is sooo exclusive that it’s downright sexist.

So, include men.

Yes, men.

No, not burly, tree chopping, sweaty, hairy men.

But men like Walter Talackova

Girl... Power !

As you can see, there’s been a few changes since the gender reassignment surgery & hormone treatments.

Walter Talackova now goes by the name of “Jenna” Talackova & apparently loves competing in beauty contests.

Sure, a transgender person willingly choosing a name that’s similar to “Geni-tal, Lack Of A” might seem pretty odd but back in the Walter days, it already had “Lack Ova” in there.

Anyhoo, it must’ve been a real… *ahem* drag for this beauty… *ahem* queen to have entered the Miss Universe pageant.

Or rather trying to enter it, as Jenna wasn’t allowed to do so because of the (seemingly logical) rule of all contestants needing to have been born a natural woman.

With a scandal brewing & rights groups pushing the issue in the media After some honest soulsearching, the contest officials on their part decided that the Miss Universe contest would now be open to non-original women too.

But even though I personally have never heard of a… man (???) who’s into waving 24/7 or gives “world peace” as an answer to every question, there’s still the bigger picture to consider here.

At this very moment there are many heterosexual males out there thinking something along the lines of “Yech !” or worse “Yecch !!!” because for them today, the Apocalypse has very much arrived.

Unlike before, they will now no longer feel safe to automatically lust after Miss Universe contestants & fear they might become tranny chasers.

To all those men, let me ask you a question: “Don’t you think it’s intolerant of you to treat her differently ?”

Now, you might think: But what about the fake eyelashes, artificial nails, filler injected lips, breast implants, hair extensions, etc. ?

Weeelllll, yeah ok… but I think Jenna will fit in perfectly with those women.

Mu On Mo #15 – It’s Not Your Tune, Chuck I/IV

April 9, 2012

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Heeello & welcome the 1st part of a new themed Mu On Mo.

I improvised that bit.

‘Cause that’s what this new theme is all about or at least part of it.

You see, a lil’ while ago a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador made an announcement about music & the month of April.

The ambassador ? Why none other than Herbie Hancock.

His announcement ? Starting this year, April 30th will be known as International Jazz Day.

Jazz, it’s a hard to define type of music but the term animated certainly seems to fit its broad range of styles & sensibilities.

But with decades upon decades of countless artists who contributed so much to it, choosing a single song is an undertaking that would probably drive anyone mad.

…thinking about how ol’ Herb himself is (among other things) a jazz pianist & the earlier mentioned defining term, I realized there’s a certain musical piece that goes really well with those 2 things & which got the following comment on YouTube…

“Timeless…..Period”

Couldn’t agree more.

& although it’s become synonymous with a bunch of kids, you don’t have to know them or their history to appreciate it.

Enjoy this jazz standard & to Mr Hancock, happy birthday (on April 12th)…

The Girl With The Naggin’ Boo-Boo

February 27, 2012

2 posts in a single day ???

Yup, tiss shocking but not as shocking as the reason why I’m updating twice in 1 day.

It all started some hours ago, when host Billy Crystal introduced as next presenter, the following person…

Angelina's arms

They say the camera adds 10 pounds…

Yikes !

Could be worse though, imagine if that broadcast had been in 3D HD.

I just don’t understand why someone who’s in the spotlight, both that evening & in general, flaunts part of their figure while other parts are clearly a worrying sight.

Arms shouldn’t be like that unless you’re ill or something.

“Quod me nutrit me destruit”, a Latin quote tattooed on her body seems creepily appropriate now as it means “that which nourishes me, destroys me”.

Now, I’m sure that some people reading this are saying: “Picky picky !”

To you, I’d reply that there’s no need for such harsh words.

I mean we all know her arms look like toothpicks, no need to rub it in.

But seriously…

Maybe there’s a light at the end of this tunnel.

Seeing as she’s an “ambassador” for them, maybe the UN can feed her with that World Food Programme of theirs ?

Mu On Mo #05 – Heap O’ Naked

January 30, 2012

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Hello & goodbye !

As you may or may not know, this is “the end”.

Yes, that which Sir Monkey was wondering about last week can now be confirmed (or again, if you read my reply to the simian knight), this is indeed the final ever Mu On Mo…

…well, for January at least.

Next month. it’ll return as always (?) but won’t be dependent on the theme of decades like the 4 past songs or the 1 today.

Which brings us to my final ever choice… (for January).

After the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s, it stands to reason that the 00s should follow but making this choice was even harder than last week’s.

Simply put, the latter half of the 90s & also right after, lead to the demise of House music, the (further) rise of Rap music & several one-hit wonders who tried to make it big by covering existing songs only to release them reworked as “cool” Dance music.

However, that’s not the worst that happened in Music Land…

No, for these years gave rise to the scantily clad female performer with blondes like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera & Jessica Simpson.

& also barely dressed brunettes like Shakira, Beyoncé Knowles, Rihanna, Nicole Scherzinger & even Mariah Carey v2.0 who changed from “awww sweet” to “ewww slut” overnight.

Anyhoo, no matter what hair colour they all have, clip after clip after clip showed how immensely… empowered (uh-huh) they all are now because nothing says rationally mature & emotionally secure quite like wearing next to nothing while moving provocatively in blatant sexual settings.

But THANKFULLY, there was also another kind of female performer during these 00s.

A type of female artist who during these dark times didn’t feel the need to compensate for the lack of any genuine talent take off her clothes at a whim during 1 of her songs.

Like, for example, the song that got the following YouTube comment…

“I wish we could buy this version. The piano she adds in it makes it sound so good.”

Yes, the following music number is not available as it was performed on TV & thus shows a lot more naked talent than naked skin.

& like so many others, I too liked it a whole lot more than the album version, so… I actually made myself a nice lil’ copy of this live performance.

Enjoy the song…

From the 00’s, that was Imogen Heap – First Train Home (Live).

…& So It Ends (Again) ?

August 31, 2011

With this end of August comes another ending.

Because as of today DC Comics has ceased to be.

Oh sure, the publishing of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc will continue but starting September 1st, the status quo is no more.

Over the past decades, DC has done this several times in very a similar fashion where some sort of major crisis alters reality for the characters.

So, while hardly new… it still pretty much sucks if you wanted to keep on reading stories set in the current version of its (increasingly complicated) continuity.

DC itself means “Detective Comics” but in this instance I think I’ll go with “Don’t Cry”.

Unknown, Hungry Muslim Loses Sense Of Humour

August 18, 2011

I dunno if you’re aware of it but this whole August month = Ramadan, that holy month where Muslims have to do all sorts of specific Muslimy things.

Things like fasting & abstaining from smoking but also doing things like spiritual reflection, all to gain humility.

So, it’s rather odd to hear & read these reports about about this Muslim person, “Umar al-Basrawi”, posting what basically comes down to a death threat against David Letterman because he made fun of the killings of al-Qaeda leaders Muhammad Ilyas Kashmiri & Osama Bin Laden.

WTF ?

That’s something that really shocked me.

You know as I just didn’t think it was possible.

I mean, who would’ve ever thought that Muslim extremists actually watched late night talk shows ?

It’s shocking !

But seriously, what do you think Dave ?
