Mu On Mo #25 – 3 Feet High… & Rising

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Hi, welcome to the 3rd part already of this Rap themed Mu On Mo.

Lots of things come in threes.

3 seems to be the magic number like for example with movie trilogies, the particular way this blog is written & today’s song… sort of.

Last week’s choice “The Message” was (arguably) the first popular Rap song to have meaningful lyrics.

However, the genre still had to undergo further change to get farther.

This change into its 3rd incarnation would lead to Rap (finally) becoming mainstream.

& to achieve this, the rapping over samples & the change in subject matter only needed 1 simple thing.

Keep.It.Real.

Which, simply put, came in the form of sneakers & gold chains like in the song that got the following comment on YouTube…

“good old real hip-hop, feel bad for them kids that listen to soulja boy, florida, and whatnot, bunch of shit”

I guess when people are dying of thirst & there’s no water around… they’ll drink whatever is given to them.

Even if it’s liquid crap.

Keep it real & enjoy the godfathers…

From the start of the golden era of Rap, that was Run-D.M.C. – Hard Times.

See you dawgs another time for mo’ Music On Monday ?

…that’s if we’re still around.
