Mu On Mo #17 – Slightly Out Of Ipanema III/IV

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Ok, last week’s… happy lil’ accident made me sort of dread today’s post.

In fact, instead of writing all of this beforehand, I put it off until just now.

Welcome to a new Mu On Mo.

You know, having to rely on something fickle (YouTube) is somewhat unnerving.

& while the ironies of a video sharing site not sharing its videos would make a good subject for a “Funny Monkey” post, that’s not what this is about.

But this… uncertainty principle is somewhat akin to Jazz in the sense that a music artist will have to make choices in how to approach a song with his or her skills.

This has (eventually) lead to many many many variations in Jazz music like the so-called fusion genre.

& another example of the ever evolving Jazz is something called “the new trend” or “the latest thing”.

This music is better known as Bossa Nova.

Now, some might think it’s a Brazil-only type of jazzy sound.

While others might struggle when trying to think of another example besides that “The Girl From Ipanema” song.

Well, if that’s the case have no fear ’cause Herbie Hancock is here !

…oh wait, seems he’s a bit busy right now.

But ol’ Herb still wants you to know that it’s nearly time for the 1st ever International Jazz Day later this month.

Which makes today as good a day as any for a certain Bossa Nova song which got the following comment on (uh-oh) YouTube…

“my absolutle favorite [artist name] track…!!!”

Understandable.

Because even though it’s not her song, it’s a very nice interpretation of a genuine classic.

Enjoy the following standard…

Composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim, that was Eliane Elias – Desafinado.

See you another time for more Music On Monday ?

…that’s if we’re still around.
