Mu On Mo #04 – No Weird Beard ?

With a certain chance of us all dying a horrible death some time during this apocalyptic year, it’s better to focus elsewhere.

& to soothe the soul, what’s better than a few tunes ?

Here’s some Music On Monday…

Hello & welcome to this 4th entry of Mu On Mo !

Looking back on the past 3 entries, there’s this… emerging pattern you might’ve noticed as entry #1 was a song from the 60s, with #2 we had the 70s & last week’s #3 was the 80s.

So, as I thought about what song to use for this week’s entry, the 90s were seemingly the next logical step… or so I thought.

The more I thought about it, the more difficult it became to think of a song… any song from that time.

You see, if the 90s were muscially defined by 1 thing, it’s without a doubt a lil’ thing called House music & that just happens to be a music genre that’s more or less skipped on the radio stations I’ve been listening to.

Which made this week a lot more difficult than say, were I to consider using a 70s song for example but thankfully not everything was House back then.

By the time the 90s rolled around, a lot of the previous artists were losing ground either by releasing the “wrong” type of songs & in some cases because of them not releasing any songs.

So, House became the next big thing but in this landscape of fast electronic beats there was still room for other types of music.

Like the song that got the following YouTube comment…

“They got an award for sampling another persons work and putting some words to it?

Now, while (early) House music itself was sometimes made up out of looping sampled noises, it’s quite another music genre that’s being talked about here, namely rap music.

Rap artists are (sometimes) accused of stealing but when it comes to previously established material & doing something new with it, especially when it has the original artist’s blessing… well, it should be worth listening to instead of being dismissed.

& yet there’s that worrying feeling that the original song & its artist aren’t given the honour they deserve by the (current) audience at large, all of which made the following clip the perfect choice – enjoy the song…

From the 90’s, that was Coolio Featuring LV & Stevie Wonder – Pastime Paradise/Gangsta’s Paradise.

See you another time for more Music On Monday.

…that’s if we’re still around.

Does this mean, since there’s only the 00’s left, that your ‘Mu On Mo’ series will end next monday!?
Now THAT would be a real disaster!

It’s the only thing which livens up my mondays.

Anywayz: I’d like to thank God for X-Mer’s New Atlantica Page.

    Sir Monkey !!!

Regarding the future of Mu On Mo… well, I’m afraid I do have some bad news but I also have some other news.

But more on that next monday…

    Just kidding !

The bad being: Yes, with only 1 more (complete) decade left, Mu On Mo will be ending next monday.

The other being: It will then return… starting the 1st monday of next month, February 6th !

I mean, just because we ran out of decades by following this weird pattern doesn’t mean we’ve run out of artists & songs yet,

From now on, any future entries will either be more stand-alone or follow another type of pattern.

& I already have a monthlong theme in mind for February.
