Obama Vs Osama – The Beginning

Barack Obama won the election but long before Inauguration Day (January 20 2009) he started talking about the “War On Terror“…

—————————————————————————————————————

During his victory speech a few hours after having defeated John McCain:

To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you !

To those who seek peace & security, we support you !

& to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright tonight we’ve proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth but from the enduring power of our ideals…

Democracy ! Liberty ! Opportunity ! & Unyielding Hope !

During his first official news conference some days after his election victory:

Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon, I believe is unacceptable and we have to mount an international effort to prevent that from happening.

Iran’s support of terrorist organisations, I think, is something that needs to cease.

During his “60 Minutes” interview some 2 weeks after Election Day:

I’ve said repeatedly that I intend to close Guantanamo. & I will follow through on that.

I’ve said repeatedly that America doen’t torture. & I’m gonna make sure that we don’t torture.

Also during that “60 Minutes” interview:

I think it is a top priority for us to stamp out al-Qaeda once & for all.

& I think capturing or killing Bin Laden is a critical aspect of stamping out al-Qaeda. He is not just a symbol, he’s also the operational leader of an organisation that is planning attacks against US targets.

During his “This Week” interview in January 2009:

Well, I think that Iran is going to be one of our biggest challenges. And as I said during the campaign, you know, we have a situation in which not only is Iran exporting terrorism through Hamas, through Hezbollah, but they are pursuing a nuclear weapon that could potentially trigger a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

& we are going to have to take a new approach. & I’ve outlined my belief that engagement is the place to start. That the international community is going to be taking cues from us in how we want to approach Iran.

Interesting but the real battle starts today.
